Recognizing The Light Of Christ

light of christ Sep 29, 2021

When I was younger, my family would go to Lake Powell all the time. We loved to hike Rainbow Arch. It was quite a hike to get there. As we were hiking, we came across an area that had a cove. There were cliffs all around, and at the bottom was a pool of water. My Aunt was on a cliff that was 15 to 20 feet above the water. As she was climbing down the cliff, she fell, hit her head, and fell straight down into the water. Her head was face down in the water as her body was floating on the surface. We all looked at her as she was lifeless in the pool of water. All of a sudden, without even thinking, I jumped into the water, grabbed her and swam her over to the side, and pulled her out of the water. My dad yelled at my brothers and told them to get some help. They had to run back to the trailhead because we had no cell phone then. Because they went and got some help, a helicopter came. We were in a cove, and so it was hard for the helicopter to land. After many tries, it finally landed. They took my Aunt in the helicopter to the hospital, and she recovered there.

Why did I jump into the water to save my Aunt without even thinking? Why did my brothers run as fast as they could to get help? How did the pilots in the helicopters land in a place that could be dangerous? We have a chemical in our bodies call adrenaline. When there is an emergency, this adrenaline is released into our bodies, and we can do more and be more than we ever thought we could. Because of the adrenalin running through my body, I was able to swim my Aunt's lifeless body to the side and pull her out of the water.

Like this adrenalin running through our bodies and helping us to do more and be more, we also have something else within us that can help us do more and be more than we thought we could call it the Light of Christ. When we are filled with the light of Christ, we can serve others more, we can love others more, we are not frightened, we are confident, we love ourselves, and we can do more than we thought. With the light of Christ, we can do all that is asked and even more.

This week I challenge everyone to focus on how you can increase the Light of Christ within you. See how you can be more like your Savior. With this light, see how it makes you feel different. I am so thankful Heavenly Father has given us the light of Christ. With Christ, we can do anything....
